There’s being bad at small talk, and then there’s engaging in a conversation that’s “stillborn.” Care to guess which one stymied a friendship for Cut The Kids In Half<\/a><\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boston-via-New Jersey band dredge up a soured exchange in “Song of Two Humans,” a tune that untethers its narrator from someone they no longer want to be involved with. The song and its accompanying music video arrived last week (January 16) to tease the group’s forthcoming debut album, What We Became<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wrote the first lines after a strained conversation with an old friend, and somewhere along the way it became about a relationship,\u201d explains vocalist and songwriter Jack Silver.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s about what it\u2019s like when you discover everything about someone, and one day you realize you don\u2019t like what you\u2019ve found. One day you\u2019re together, the next you\u2019re in each other\u2019s way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The searing alt-rock riffs fueling “Song of Two Humans” are matched by Silver’s lyrical daggers; “You’re a temple \/ And I’m only passing through it” comes to mind, along with the aforementioned zing about a “stillborn” conversation. Yet the band’s story never becomes unkind — just painfully honest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depending on who you relate to in this scenario — Silver or his old friend — the single’s message is either an exhale of relief or a gut-gnawing goodbye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
